Welcome to Bush Week, a Monthly culinary adventure into the
world of Australian Native Food Plants.

This month: Australian Native Raspberry (Rubus muelleri)

Atherton Tablelands:
The Atherton Tablelands in far Northern Queensland hosts the Native Australian Raspberry Rubus mueleri.
This Raspberry is a light palatable nutritious fruit.

Propogation and growing requirements:
This Raspberry grows at a high altitude on the Atherton Tablelands and in a sub-tropical climate.
The Raspberry adapts well to the coastal regions south through most of the Qld and N.S.W. coast.


Growing and harvesting:
The canes can grow to lengths of 3 metres or more. If grown on trelises like European Raspberrys they can produce up to 3kg or more of Raspberrys per plant.
Recipes and ways to use produce:
The Raspberrys are excellent in fruit salads with icecream or yoghurt, chocolate dipped, made into jam or syrup.
Nutritional Value:
Quite high in natural Vitamin C and Bioflavanoids.

Industry use:
Cultivation of this nutritious Raspberry can yield a produce of fresh Raspberrys for Jams, fruit salads or natural fruit syrups.
