The Legend
The world of dreams was very significant to native Indian tribes and because of this they took great care to sort the good dreams from the bad ones.
A ring, bound with leather, the web stung with sineu and decorated with beads and feathers.
It was hung over a childs bed and this they called a Dreamcatcher.
The web of sineu represented a spiders web that would catch and hold its prey - bad dreams - and allow good dreams to drift down to the sleeper through the center hole.
A colourful bead near the center of the web represents a spider - the keeper of dreams.
These webs were decorated further during a childs early years by adding feathers, a tooth, a claw,
or any other momento that was the result of a feat of daring or achievement.
Much the same as trophies or awards are accumulated by modern day children.
